Freedom Movement In The State The struggle for Independence had its echo in the state of Hyderabad too. After a prolonged fight the state of Hyderabad gained freedom from the rule of Nizam, Police Action culminated in Independence for this princely state in 1948. |

In 1953, the Andhra State was formed with Kurnool as its capital. Then it comprised five districts from Rayalaseema (explained later in the chapter) and nine districts from the circar area (the coastal area). Again in 1956, the state was reorganised on the basis of language and our state, the present Andhra Pradesh, was formed. |

| There are 23 districts in our state which form the three distinct regions namely, the Telangana, the Rayalseema and the Coastal region. |

The Telangana area has 10 districts. They are Mahbubnagar, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam and Nalgonda. Under the Rayalseema area, we have four districts, namely, Chittoor, Cuddapah, Kurnool and Anantapur. |
| The Coastal region of our state has been divided into nine districts: Srikakulam, Vizianagaram, Visakhapatnam, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore. |
